Hi, hopefully my personal experiences will contribute some input for people agonizing over what widths and weights fabrics to go with! over the past few years I have used mostly regular but also one wide hammock as well both the 1.6 and 2.4 hexon. I am 5’10”/180lbs. After having spent 17 nights in a wide, I have gone back to the regular width because the wide still only has the exact same diagonal “sweet spot” as the regular and all that extra fabric didn’t contribute to more comfort, in fact it became annoying flapping and hanging around after the 6th or 7th night. Dutch’s video on it is right, You only need to choose the wide if you are say taller than 6’. As far as fabric weights, arguably this is far more subjective, and my personal preference is currently that I get a much better nights sleep in the 2.4. It’s my opinion that due to it being ever so slightly firmer, that is either attributing to a slightly larger range in the “sweet spot” or that the firmness makes finding the “sweet spot” instantaneous or both. The 2.4 is not as silky smooth, meaning that it’s a touch noisier, and has slightly more friction when moving around to get settled in, but for me it provides slightly more lumbar and shoulder support with imperceptible shoulder squeeze ( I do notice very slight shoulder squeeze now when jumping back into a 1.6) Finally, the half-zip design is top-notch, and while I have always been a better to have than not need type, I am lately only carrying a netless and separate bottom entry bugnet and have only used the net maybe thrice in well over 90nights outdoors ver past three years ranging from the gulf coast to the Appalachian area to the amazing Olympic Peninsula.
