I have two hammocks with integrated zip on/off bug nets: a Haven tent hammock and a Pinnacle 360 11′ hammock. For different reasons I don’t like the bug nets on either hammock, and I’ve looked at a lot of stand alone nets to replace either or both of these. I bought the 11 foot summer sock with zipper, primarily to replace the zip-in bug net on the 11′ gathered end hammock, and it is PERFECT. If fits very well, it gives me 360 degree bug protection, the zipper works smoothly, it is plenty big and it is very light weight. The pleasant surprise was that the summer sock also fits my Haven hammock tent perfectly! It slides over the Haven tent hammock when it is fully hung and assembled, and it solves a couple of problems I have with the Haven. The biggest problem I have with the Haven tent hammock is that the width (I have the 24 inch version) is too narrow for me to sleep comfortably on my stomach or sides, since I like to bend me arms and legs so much that they extend beyond the raised sides of the hammock. Because the summer sock hangs from the ridge line, pushing beyond the edges of the tent is not a problem (except for the raised tent edge, which I’ll address below). The sock also solves the other big problem I have with the Haven tent — the comfort of the included structural sleeping pad. To address the comfort issue I added a self inflating foam pad on top. This not only made the bed much more comfortable, it also raised the level of the bed enough that I can comfortable stick my bent leg out the side without hitting the side wall. The down side was that with the foam pad in the tent bed it’s almost impossible to use (zip) the integrated bug net. The summer sock addresses these problems and provides a second layer of bug protection outside the tent material, along with wind and light protection when rotated to the fabric side. When not needed the sock can be slid to the end of the tent. And I swear that the summer sock netting allows for more air flow than the integrated net. The summer sock is a fantastic product! The only caveat I offer is that I don’t know if fit of the summer sock on the Haven hammock tent is affected by the weight of the occupant (I weight about 160).
